Introduces new IEC60870-5-101 Network Option Module for Quantum
ProLinx Communications Gateways is
pleased to introduce a new Network Option Module for the Quantum
processor, the ProTalk Q In-Rack IEC60870-5-101 Slave, with a Master
to follow shortly thereafter. The module is scheduled for release in
August.
"We’re really excited to be able
to add the IEC60870-5-101 Slave to the line of ProTalk Q modules
already available in the Quantum platform," said Michael Trask,
Senior Product Engineer for ProLinx Communications Gateways. "We
have worked extensively with the IEC60870-5-101 protocol for a number of years and the quality of the product will reflect this
experience."
Chosen because of their industrial
protocol expertise and their familiarity with the Quantum platform,
ProLinx has the communications engineering know-how and
industry-leading technical support Schneider Electric customers
expect.
"Schneider
Electric in Spain originally approached us on the possibility of
developing this module," said Doug Sharratt, President of ProLinx
Communications Gateways. "They were receiving a number of
requests for a 101 interface. After several discussions with Schneider
representatives from South America and Europe, who were also seeing
increased interest in this protocol, we agreed to add it to our
development schedule. I believe the new Quantum module will expand
Schneider’s networking options to meet the growing demand for this
protocol."
"In the past, the IEC60870-5-101
was considered a protocol used in the electrical power distribution
industry in Europe," said Janice Hungerford, Regional Manager for
ProLinx in the U.S. "In the last few years, however, because of
its report by exception and time stamping features, it is quickly
becoming a standard for water distribution, wastewater collectors and
treatment plants, oil and gas pipelines and storage and highway
lighting and security systems around the world."
ProLinx and the new ProTalk Q modules
This product joins a growing family of
new network protocol modules in the ProTalk Q line, including:
EtherNet/IP, IEC60870-5-103, IEC60870-5-104, DF1, DNP 3.0, DNP
Ethernet and Landis & Gyr. ProTalk Q joins over 150 network
protocol communications solutions available from ProLinx.
"The development of the EtherNet/IP,
DNP Ethernet and the IEC60870-5-104 protocols in the ProTalk Q line
was a natural," said Hungerford. "They enhance Schneider’s
Transparent Factory, providing the seamless communication needed
between automation, manufacturing and business systems.
