An underground coal mining application in Australia was looking to
install an Ethernet-based communications network throughout the mine
that could handle data, voice and video between several remote
computer workstations. Fiber optic cable was the media of choice due
to its superior properties and capabilities to transmit over long
distances throughout hazardous environments. Weed Instrument Company,
a member of the Schneider Electric Technology partners Program
since 1993, offered the R208-W Managed Ethernet Ring Switch with
network redundancy that offers ultra fast reconfiguration (30mS) of
the network topology. Ruggedly engineered, the switch features durable
military design and offers full functionality in a wide range of
temperatures (-40° to 85°C).
